Keeping an eye on your pet’s waistline is crucial to protecting their health and happiness.
As you are probably aware obesity in humans can result in a lot of health risks, but you may not be aware that the health implications are very similar for your beloved pet as well. Here at Jacqui Paterson’s we offer weight management services and advice to our clients in Stockton and the surrounding areas to ensure your pet remains at a healthy weight to allow them to enjoy all of the health benefits that come with being at an ideal weight for their breed and age.
We fully understand that it seems kind to give your companion a treat now and then, however if this happens in excess it can result in an overweight pet that can be at serious risks of developing arthritis, diabetes, heart disease or various forms of cancer.
On the other hand, if your pet is underweight, they may be at risk of a weakened immune system which will make them more susceptible to diseases. Your pet being underweight can also be a sign of an underlying illness which is why it is very important to bring your pet in to see us if you have any concerns over their weight.
To check if your pet is a healthy weight take a look at them from above, you should be able to feel their ribs and see the outline of their waist. From the side, their tummy should be tucked up out of view whilst not revealing the ribs. If this isn’t the case for your pet or if you are still unsure and would like a second opinion, make sure you make an appointment with us to get your pet checked over and we will be able to offer food and lifestyle advice to get your pet on track to reach their ideal weight.
If you are from Stockton and would like to get your cat or dog‘s weight checked we offer weight clinics here at Jacqui Paterson’s for pets that are having difficulty with their waistline.
